Australian Customs and Border Protection Campaign on Self Assessed Clearances
Customs and Border Protection (C&BP) in Australia is undertaking a three month campaign to ensure that existing exemptions to pay GST and customs duty on certain imported goods under $1,000 (Self Assessed Clearances) are not being abused or exploited.
This campaign commenced in January 2011. As part of the program, C&BP will be reviewing all paperwork in greater detail and customers may be contacted by C&BP or the reporters of these items to confirm the purchase price of goods.
To avoid shipment delays, FedEx recommends that shippers provide a copy of the customer purchase order and payment receipt, along with the commercial invoice at the time when they tender the shipment to FedEx.
C&BP have prepared some advice in relation to presenting documents for Self Assessed Clearances. The complete advisory notice can be found on the following government website: http://www.cargosupport.gov.au/webdata/resources/files/ACCA2011_01.pdf
