Certificate of Origin no longer required for certain textile products into the EU and Switzerland
The European Union (EU) has confirmed that effective October 24, 2011, a Certificate of Origin is no longer required when importing certain textile products into the EU and Switzerland.
Customers are still required to state the origin country on the commercial invoice as it is a mandatory data field on the customs import declaration. However there is no longer a requirement for a separate document as additional proof of the claimed origin country unless specifically requested by an EU customs authority for a particular consignment.
Supporting documents for the claim of preferential duty such as the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Form A are still required.
