Effective April 1, 2005, Memphis will be one of the designated ports of clearance for Fish and Wildlife regulated commodities.

Effective April 1, 2005, Memphis will be one of the designated ports of clearance for Fish and Wildlife regulated commodities. FedEx will be able to deliver your fish and wildlife regulated shipments to the U.S. faster.

Fish and Wildlife defines wildlife as:
"Any wild animal, whether alive or dead, including any wild mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian, fish, mollusk (i.e. clam, snail, squid, octopus), crustacean (i.e. crab, lobster, crayfish), insect, sponges, corals, or other invertebrate, whether or not bred, hatched, or born in captivity, and including any part, product (including manufactured)"

Common Wildlife Commodities
The following are commonly shipped products that are made of or contain wildlife (list not all inclusive):

Apparel (clothing); Belts; Biological specimens (blood, serum, tissue...); Bracelets; Briefcases; Brushes (hair, shaving, paint...); Carved Figurines; Cell phone cases; Cigarette lighters; Curios; Down articles (pillows, jackets...); Fishing flies/lures; Furs; Handbags; Handicrafts; Ivory; Jewelry; Key rings; Flasks (for liquor...); Luggage; Medicinals (tablets, powders, oils...); Mother of pearl; Musical instruments; Native American articles; Picture frames; Purses; Shahtoosh (wool); Shell buttons; Shoes; Sporrans; Souvenirs; Wallets; Watches; Watch bands.

FedEx will accept wildlife products that are admissible into the U.S.

  • Fish and Wildlife commodities, including furs and non-perishable caviar, will no longer be prohibited commodities for the U.S.
  • Acceptable Fish and Wildlife regulated commodities imported into the U.S. can be shipped via IP as well as IPBSO.

Special Requirements
Wildlife shipments require a FedEx Air Waybill, a detailed commercial invoice and one or more of the following documents at a minimum:

  • Fish and wildlife Import and Export License - issued to the US importer
  • Original copy of export permit from the origin country
  • Original copy of Import permit from the destination country
  • Original copy of certificate of origin
  • Packing list
  • Other commodity-specific documentation

FedEx Prohibitions
In addition to all products prohibited by the U.S. (country prohibition), the following Standard IP Prohibitions will still apply:

  • Live animals - all, wild or otherwise (butterflies, insects, tropical fish, sea horses, etc.)
  • Perishable foodstuffs - all, wild or otherwise (caviar, conch, sport-caught game meat, etc.)
  • Hunting trophies - mounted dead animals (taxidermy)
  • Live or dead wildlife under the jurisdiction of the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) - all plants or parts of plants, wild or otherwise (orchids, woods, cacti, cycads, etc.)
  • U.S. Exports - Any wildlife product that requires FWS clearance at the port of export prior to exportation will continue to be prohibited via IP.
