Regulations on shipping cosmetics and human food containing cattle material


Effective Jan 9, 2007, the US Food and Drug Administration(FDA) has published a final rule with new requirements for shipping cosmetics and human food containing cattle material to US. This is to help prevent the spread of "Mad Cow" disease.

When you ship cosmetics and human food to US, please follow the guidelines below:

  1. Make sure that items containing cattle material does not contain "specified risk material" (SRM) from cattle.
  2. If an item contains cattle material, ensure that manufacturing was done in accordance with provisions of the FDA regulations.
  3. If an item does not contain cattle material, please add a statement of "No cattle material present" on the commercial invoice.
