FedEx Employees answer the Call for Thai Community in Need
BANGKOK, May 28, 2004 - Employees at FedEx Express (FedEx), the world's leading express transportation company, today collected personal and educational items including books and toys for children at the Suan Phlu Pattana Community Kindergarten and Library.
A recent fire in the Suan Phlu community destroyed 700 houses, including the local community Kindergarten and library. The kindergarten, originally established by the Sikkha Asia Foundation, requested assistance from the public to set up the new school, and to collect educational materials and supplies.
Speaking on behalf of all employees involved in the collection effort, Clifton Chua, Managing Director for FedEx Thailand, Philippines and Indochina said "FedEx employees from our couriers to managers, have answered the call to help the children at the Suan Phlu community kindergarten, and will be donating these supplies at our Rama IV Road office and World Service Centre in Bangkok. We hope that this donation will help bring some cheer to those children who were affected by the fire."
This activity is one of the examples of how FedEx engages its employees in community work and encourages employee volunteerism.
Donated items will be consolidated at the FedEx office in Klongtoey, and presented to the Suan Phlu Pattana Community Kindergarten and Library in early June.
