Q: How do I determine if my shipments are “Materials needed for the World Expo”?

A:  The Shipper/Consignee Notice on Customs clearance of Materials Needed for the World Expo 2010 Shanghai, China will provide you with the criteria for Materials Needed for the World Expo.

Q:What special clearance related document should be prepared before the entry of exhibits?

A: Exhibitors or their representatives need to provide the Expo Bureau with a List of Entering Materials for Expo 2010 Shanghai, China, which has been signed by the chief representative of the pavilion or the authorized representative, to the Logistics Center 20 days prior to the entry of the exhibits.

Q: Which shipment categories must be cleared by official logistics service providers?

A:  Exhibits and exhibition articles must be cleared by the official logistics service provider at the Shanghai Customs Supervision and Service Center in EXPO site. Detailed definitions of exhibits and exhibition articles are as follows:

Exhibits include:

  • Goods exhibited at the Expo;
  • Goods used to demonstrate equipment or appliances displayed at the Expo;
  • Materials for building and decorating temporary booths;
  • Film, slides, videotapes, tapes, instructions, advertisements, CDs, displays, etc. used for publicizing goods exhibited at the Expo; and,
  • Other materials used for exhibition.

Exhibition articles include:

  • Goods provided by the participants during the exhibition and distributed to visitors for use or consumption free of charge (excluding alcoholic drinks, tobacco products and fuel), including goods imported with original packaging or samples of food and beverages which are not packaged but are consumed during the exhibition.
  • Materials which are used or damaged during the demonstration of the exhibited machine or parts;
  • Goods with low unit price and used for advertising;
  • Low-value goods used for arranging and decorating the temporary exhibition stands;
  • Relevant publicity products distributed to visitors free of charge;
  • Files, forms and other documents used during the exhibition.

Q: Who are the official Expo logistics providers? Will FedEx help me contact these Expo official logistics providers to arrange clearance?

A:  During Expo 2010 Shanghai China, the Official Logistics Service Providers will at the Shanghai Customs Supervision and Service Center in EXPO site and will assist in customs clearance for their designated Expo areas.

Q: Are there any special notices for importing and exporting Expo materials?

A: For inbound (IB) & outbound (OB) Expo materials containing the following commodities, special documentation is required. Shippers should submit additional certificates issued by the relevant authorities as customs clearance supporting documents.

Commodities requiring additional documentation include, but are not limited to: animal and plant and related products, food, beverage and cosmetics made of wild animals and/or plants, special articles, medicine, satellite television broadcast ground receiving facilities, wood packaging materials, inbound foreign vehicles.

Q: What should I do if I already packed exhibition articles, goods used for exhibition and personal articles together?

A: If you packed exhibition articles, goods used for exhibition and personal articles together when shipping your Expo materials, each category of articles/goods will be separated and weighed by the Supervision Service Center, Airport Customs or the Expo official logistics service providers. Then, each category of articles/goods will be cleared according to its respective custom regulations.

In order to avoid unnecessary customs clearance delays, if you have not packed your goods, please pack and ship exhibition articles, goods for exhibition and personal articles separately.

Q:  What is the time limit for temporarily imported articles?

A:  Upon receiving approval from Shanghai Customs, Expo materials that are temporarily imported into China should be shipped back within one year after its first entry. For materials which need to stay longer, an extension from Shanghai Customs can be provided, but the deadline can only be extended to May 31, 2011. 

Q: Can overseas tourists apply for Expo certification and enjoy the convenience in terms of customs clearance?

A: Only applications submitted by exhibitors and their relatives will be accepted by the Shanghai Expo Authority.

Q: Will the traffic restrictions during Expo affect FedEx services?

A: Till now, Shanghai government hasn’t announced traffic restriction details, therefore FedEx is unable to judge how the traffic restrictions will affect FedEx services. However, FedEx is actively studying different solutions to different situations so as to take the most effective action at the quickest speed. FedEx will try to minimize the impact of traffic restrictions and provide you high quality services as always.

Q: Currently the Shanghai government announced that Apr 30 and May 4, 2010 will be Shanghai public holidays. Will this affect FedEx services?

A: Since the Shanghai government hasn’t officially announced details about the public holiday plan for April 30 and May 4, FedEx is unable to determine if it will impact our services. FedEx will keep you updated with the latest news through various channels. We will do our best to provide you reliable services during this special period.
