When shipping from Sri Lanka clearance through Customs depends on whether you're shipping:
- Documents with no commercial value ( only fedex AWB is needed )
- Dutiable goods (goods with a commercial value)

Certain items are forbidden and controlled for export from Sri Lanka by Customs. These items are in addition to items prohibited by the IATA. Senders are responsible for making sure that the goods they are shipping will be accepted by the destination country.
Forbidden for Export from Sri Lanka
- Dangerous goods as defined by IATA
- Food, perishable
- Live animals
- Explosives
- Mahogany and ebony wood items
Restricted for Export from Sri Lanka
- Human body parts require approval from the Ministry of Health
- Liquor requires approval from the Department of Excise
- Artifacts require the approval from the National Museum
- Sand requires the approval from the Ministry of Sands and Minerals

Sri Lanka Export Regulations
Take note of the following regulations when exporting from Sri Lanka:
- For size and weight maximums please check with the destination country's limits.
- Dimensional weight or actual weight, whichever is greater, determines the shipment tariff.
- Wooden boxes used for shipping to the US and India require fumigation certificates prior to shipment.
