Collecting and Delivering Secondhand Musical Instruments to Schools in After-earthquake and Remote Areas of Taiwan
TAIPEI, February 18, 2003 - FedEx Taiwan cooperates with Chou-Ta-Kuan (CTK) Foundation to collect and deliver donations of secondhand musical instruments to schools in after-earthquake and remote areas of Taiwan. This cooperation program aims at assisting the Ministry of Education in implementing its 2003 policy for the development of music education in Taiwan. FedEx and CTK Foundation both believe that students from these areas can benefit from the opportunity to receive music education.
It is the second time FedEx is cooperating with CTK Foundation following the donation of 1,000 small FedEx squeezable toy-planes to the Foundation during a visit to Korea in June 2001 to assist hospitalized children. “CTK Foundation continuously organizes charitable activities to assist different groups of people in various locations,” said Mr. Jimmy Chen, Managing Director of FedEx TW. “FedEx is honored to have this opportunity to work with CTK Foundation again.” Through this program, FedEx will deliver the secondhand musical instruments to selected schools so that their students can have access to the instruments as soon as possible.
From February 24 to May 20, 2003, the public can send their donations to any of the 100 FedEx Authorized Shipping Centers (FASC) in Taiwan or to the CTK Foundation. In addition, they may contact CTK Foundation to arrange pick-up services for large and heavy musical instruments such as pianos. CTK Foundation will report the final donated amount to the Ministry of Education and FedEx will begin delivering these instruments from May 20to June 2003.
Mr. Chin-Hua Chou, founder of CTK Foundation said, “We sincerely appreciate FedEx, a leader in its industry , assisting in this charity program. We hope this program will alleviate the shortage of musical teaching materials, and provide the assistance we need to support music education in the after-earthquake and remote areas of Taiwan.”
Jimmy Chen further indicated that FedEx is committed to helping the second generation of Taiwan people. By means of this charity program, FedEx not only delivers packages, but also delivers love and compassion.
In addition, FedEx and CTK Foundation will jointly announce the results of the collection in the first month at the opening reception of the Secondhand Music Instrument Museum in Chung-Li junior high school in April. About Chou-Ta-Kuan Foundation
The Chou-Ta-kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation was established in 1997 by Ta Kuan’s parents, Chou Chin-Hua and Kuo Ying-lan, with the help of Chao Tsui-hui and other benevolent individuals from Taiwan and overseas.
Chou Ta-kuan, a young poet fighting cancer, had great enthusiasm for life. The spirit he lived on was “love your life and live it happily.” To spread Ta-Kuan’s spirit, his parents and those benevolent people established the Foundation. The notion they have been spreading across the world is “be nice to yourself - love your life; be nice to others - respect their lives; be nice to nature - protect the life of earth.”
For the past three years, this Foundation has had various activities to propose its belief to the public. The Foundation held workshops, seminars, conferences, and camps to communicate Ta-kuan’s belief to the public, and even provided private counseling to help people who were in need. They visited children with cancer, people with rare diseases, the mentally ill, the physically ill, and those who are fighting for their lives. To stand by them, to persuade them to love their lives, though that is exactly a life of defects, to help them to live it happily, though they are actually suffering from the defects of their lives, the Foundation takes all these as its duties.
The Foundation gathers domestic and overseas resources, and constructs its skeleton with love and wisdom. Though the Foundation has a business-like operation, it operates its business with humanity-oriented management. The Foundation has successfully achieved its goal. By the end of December 2000, more than one hundred and ninety thousand people have volunteered for the Foundation. They effectively propose to the public Ta-Kuan’s belief in life. That is, “love your life and live it happily”.
