FedEx increases services to Vietnam with CV580 aircraft

HO CHI MINH CITY, 5 February 2004 -- FedEx Express (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, today announced the official launch of a new CV580 aircraft. The new aircraft is capable of twice the capacity, increasing available cargo weight from three to six tons, and is able to transport larger shipments.

"Vietnam is making tremendous strides in liberalizing its economy and is in the process of attracting investment from both Asian and multinational companies," said David L. Cunningham, President FedEx Express Asia Pacific division. "As the country prepares to join the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Free-Trade Area (AFTA) in 2006, air express services will be critical to Vietnam's burgeoning economy by ensuring that companies doing business in the region will have access to time definite transportation services that will enhance Vietnam's competitiveness around the region and the globe. FedEx is excited to be able to lay the foundation for this economic transformation by increasing our service offerings."

The new aircraft took its first flight on December 1st 2003 and has been operating on a regular basis since that date. FedEx customers have welcomed the new service, as Vietnam continues to make significant economic impact to the global market.

"This new service contributes significantly to increasing the export potential from Vietnam. FedEx will continue to play a role in providing the local economy with superior express, time-definite services, helping companies and manufacturers increase the speed and reliability of their products to the global market," said Mr. Peter Yin, Regional Vice President, South Pacific.

The increased service has improved the capability of Vietnamese exporters to quickly and reliably source their goods from global markets and deliver shipments within a definite timeframe to the rest of the world.

FedEx first established operations in Vietnam in 1994 through an alliance with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh Post and Telecommunications, which operates under Vietnam Post and Telecommunications. FedEx has three offices in Ho Chi Minh City, three in Hanoi and eight branches in major provinces across Vietnam.

FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX), connects areas that generate 90% of the world's gross domestic product in one to three business days with door-to-door, customs-cleared service. The company's unmatched air route authorities and infrastructure make it the world's largest express transportation company, providing fast, reliable and time-definite transportation of more than 3.1 million items to 215 countries each working day. FedEx Express employs approximately 139,000 employees and has more than 50,000 drop-off locations, 638 aircraft and approximately 43,000 vehicles in its integrated global network.
