FedEx to Deliver Australian Passports Around the World

FedEx supports new M series Australian passports with global air express delivery

SYDNEY, December 4, 2003 - FedEx Express (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, confirmed that they had been selected as the global carrier of the new M series Australian passports under new arrangements introduced last week.

Under new procedures, the majority of all passports will be produced in Australia, supported by production centres in Washington DC and London to ensure a reliable production network for Australian citizens, regardless of location. In order to support this new regional-based production for those citizens residing or traveling overseas, FedEx will undertake delivery of the completed documents to Australian missions overseas.

Mr Rhicke S. Jennings, Managing Director of FedEx Express Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands said, "FedEx lives to deliver through our dedicated network of planes, vans and couriers. Our global reputation for reliability and on-time delivery is proven once again by being selected as the Australian government's partner for the international distribution of the new passports."

"FedEx has proudly supported the Australian community since 1989 enabling businesses to export goods to new markets across the globe."

"FedEx is the perfect partner to support the Australian government in the production and distribution of passports. With operations in 215 countries, FedEx provides fast and reliable delivery of packages through our dedicated network of planes, vans and couriers."

This new system of delivery is supported by FedEx's leading 'track and trace' system, which allows visibility of the package at each stage of the journey, from pickup to delivery.

"FedEx recognises that the new M series passport and regional-production arrangements confirm the Australian government as a leader in passport security." said Mr Jennings.

"FedEx is proud to support the Australian community, from the fast and reliable delivery of high-security documents such as passports, to enabling businesses to export goods to new markets across the globe."

"FedEx invented the industry that enables global commerce in real time, and we are proud to support the Australian government in this new step." continued Mr Jennings.

According to Passports Australia, more than 980,000 passports were issued to Australians between 2001-2002.
