2005 Press Releases
KUALA LUMPUR, May 26, 2005 – FedEx Express (FedEx), the world’s largest express transportation company, officially announced the opening of its second World Service Centre and station in the Klang Valley recently. The new station will help deliver significant import/export improvements to FedEx customers by offering convenient, time-definite service and direct connection to Asia, Europe and America via FedEx’s extensive air networks.
“The new Centre dramatically boosts our services to customers in the Klang Valley and will help facilitate Malaysia’s continued growth in the global market,” said Ms. Lily Tay, Managing Director of FedEx Malaysia and Brunei. “FedEx continues to help drive global trade by enabling Malaysia’s businesses to quickly and reliably source their goods from markets around the world, and to express deliver their shipments across the globe. With strong growth anticipated to continue in both export demand and in the domestic market, FedEx is positive about our future growth in Malaysia, and the growth of Malaysian-manufactured goods in the global market.”
The station’s central location and easy access to major highways provides an earlier delivery and later cut-off time commitment, and was opened in direct response to customer demand, serving the Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur areas.
“We created this new facility in direct response to customer demands for greater capacity, convenience and reliability,” said Tay.
This new station will be a critical part of the FedEx network of services and solutions, as its global and intra-Asian network provide local businesses with overnight connectivity to 19 major Asian centers and to the rest of the world through its Asia Pacific hub in Subic Bay, the Philippines.
The facility includes approximately 32,000 square feet of office and warehouse space, and has the capacity to sort up to 1,000 packages per hour. The World Service Centre, provides a direct access point for customers, and is open from Monday through Friday, 8.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., and Saturday 8.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
The opening of the new station follows the addition of a second station facility in Kuala Lumpur in 2004, and expansion of FedEx services within Malaysia’s southern state of Johor, and the launch of a Customs Clearance hotline in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, illustrating FedEx’s targeted investments and commitment to Malaysia.
In addition to the new facility in the Petaling Jaya, FedEx has a total of eight Express Centres located in Penang (2), Shah Alam, Sepang, Ipoh, Kuching and Johor. FedEx has gateway operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang, as well as at the Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas. FedEx's state-of-the art 25,000 sq ft cargo handling facility at KLIA was opened in July 1998, with the 40,000 sq ft Penang operations at MAB Cargo Complex launched in 2001.
