Petaling Jaya, 25 August 2005 -- On the 31st of August 2005, a group of Malaysian students studying in Australia will have the opportunity to share what their fellow countrymen will be celebrating in Malaysia - Merdeka Day.
FedEx will help make this National Day a celebration for a group of Australian-based students, delivering 1,000 Malaysian flags to a group of Malaysian students who are currently pursuing their studies at Monash University, Melbourne. This joint programme between Malaysia Australia Alumni Council (MAAC) and FedEx is aimed at enhancing and sharing the feeling of pride and patriotism by celebrating Malaysia's Independence Day.
President of the Malaysia Australia Alumni Council, Puan Sri Susan S.C. Cheah, said that the program was initiated with the aim of ensuring that students that are overseas are able to enjoy Merdeka Day. "I hope they will continue to keep up the Malaysia Boleh spirit wherever they are," she added.
Ms. Lily Tay, Managing Director of FedEx Malaysia and Brunei, said that FedEx was proud to be part of the program. "FedEx is a strong supporter Malaysia, and we believe that this is a good opportunity for the students to express their patriotism towards their country. It is important that we all unite and form a strong bond, no matter where we are."
"Thanks to FedEx, the students will still be involved in this joyous celebration. I hope this will bring them unforgettable memories and remind them that Merdeka Day is a very important day for all Malaysians, regardless of their location," said Puan Sri Susan Cheah.
