New Air Cargo Security Requirements to Commence in April 2009

On April 9, 2009 the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority will introduce new air cargo security regulations, Rule 109. Effective from this date, air cargo will be prevented from being carried on international passenger aircraft unless a number of cargo security requirements have been met, and screened air freight is accompanied with a security declaration.

Under the new regulations (CAR 109) a security declaration can only be issued by a Regulated Air Cargo Agent (RACA). As part of the Regulated Air Cargo Agent certification and regulations, FedEx will be required to have in place a number of regulated measures aimed at enhancing the air cargo security supply chain.

FedEx is currently working through the requirements of becoming a RACA. One of those requirements is to have a register of ‘known customers’.  Information on how to register as a FedEx ‘Known Customer’ has been forwarded to all FedEx customers in New Zealand.  If you have not received an information package on this, please call our Customer Service team on 0800 733 339.
