FedEx is the only express transportation and logistics company in Top Ten list
BEIJING, June 21, 2004 -- FedEx Express (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, was recognized today for its consistent contribution towards the community. At the inaugural Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards Ceremony held in Beijing, China, FedEx was named as one of the Top ten multinationals to win the Outstanding Contribution Award. This is the very first time that multinationals are awarded for their CSR efforts in China. The winners of Guangming CSR Outstanding Contribution Awards also include Motorola, Coca Cola, Siemens and Sony, etc.
Organized by Guangming Daily, one of the most influential media in China, the Awards recognize CSR achievements by multinationals in several categories including Investment, Most Effective CSR Project, Corporate Leadership, Best Project Management, Individual Contribution, and CSR Development.

"FedEx cares about the communities in which we live and work and we constantly strive to help improve the quality of life in the communities that we serve. Although more than 200 entries from a wide range of industries were received, FedEx is the only express transportation and logistics company to be shortlisted into the final top ten..
FedEx has been very proactive in initiating and participating in CSR programs in China and across the globe. Past projects which impressed the judges included:
In 2001, FedEx contributed towards cultural exchange across the Taiwan Strait when it shipped more than 150 pieces of national treasures from the Beijing Poly Museum to Taiwan.
In 2000 and 2003, FedEx shipped four giant pandas from China to the U.S. providing free air transportation, ground transportation and logistics services to the pandas.
Madam Jiang Li, Vice Minister of Ministry of Civil Affairs, presented the Guangming CSR Award to FedEx. "I'm very delighted to present the Guangming CSR Award to those winning multinationals who have long been actively participating in CSR programs in China. Foreign enterprises have become major supporters of China's CSR initiatives," said Madam Jiang. "We appreciate the multinationals’ supports to China's CSR programs. We hope that there will be more enterprises and individuals to take part in CSR initiatives in the future."
Madam Jiang introduced that Premier Wen Jiabao signed a new regulation on fund management in March this year. It is the first time to allow foreign enterprises and individuals to establish fund for CSR programs in China. It demonstrates that Chinese Government welcomes and encourages foreign enterprises to conduct CSR programs in China.

Only CSR programs implemented between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2003 were eligible. They were judged by a committee comprising senior representatives of the Guangming Daily, experts from relevant government organizations and charities, as well as invited VIPs.
