Worldwide Customs and Regulatory Updates

The Korea Customs Service Prohibits Inbound Shipments Containing Goods Purchased from Electronic Commerce Sites from Being Classified as Non-Dutiable Shipments, Regardless of their Value.

Effective 22 February 2010, inbound shipments containing goods purchased from electronic commerce sites such as online shopping are prohibited from being classified as non-dutiable shipments by the Korea Customs Service.  This regulation applies even if the shipped goods have a value of less than US$100, which is usually regarded as non-dutiable.

To facilitate smooth customs clearance, shippers are therefore required to provide a detailed description of such goods, including the product name and value, and the name and address of the electronic commerce site.

The Korea Customs Service has recently started tightening its enforcement of customs clearance regulations so it is highly recommended that shippers follow these requirements closely.
