FedEx Strengthens Fast, Reliable Service to Customers with Major Petronas Partnership

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27, 2002 - FedEx Express, the world's largest express transportation company, today launched a major service partnership with Malaysia's leading company, PETRONAS to give local shippers more choice and convenience when sending their packages overseas.

New FedEx Authorised Ship Centers (FASC) were today launched at the PETRONAS service station in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong, by Michael Heldebrandt, FedEx Marketing Director South Pacific, and En Anuar Ahmad, PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd Managing Director/CEO.

The new FASCs mean that customers can drop off their shipments at selected PETRONAS Mesra stores from 8.30 a.m. – 10.00 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays and from 8.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Saturdays. Packages dropped off before 5.00 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays and before 12.00 p.m. on Saturdays will be uplifted the same day.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Heldebrandt said the partnership was a win for customers because FedEx and Petronas shared great synergies as providers of service excellence in Malaysia.

"FedEx Authorised Ship Centers offer the convenience of FedEx locations in suburban areas and a discount to customers who drop packages there. With the enhanced service, customers will be able to balance speed and time definite delivery in ways that suit their operations. They will also be able to pick up their packages from the Mesra stores as well, if they choose to.

"As the express delivery leader in Malaysia, FedEx has been premier in introducing new and upgraded services to customers in response to the ever-growing demand for speed, reliability and optimal customer service. Our unrivalled AsiaOne Network delivers packages of any shape and size overnight to 19 major Asian cities via our own planes which fly more than 260 weekly flights in Asia. The AsiaOne service enables customers to benefit from faster transit times and better capacity to key Asian destinations," said Mr Heldebrandt.

PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad's (PDB) Managing Director and CEO En Anuar Ahmad said the latest facility made available at selected PETRONAS service stations is part of the company's continual commitment to offer excellent customer service at its retail outlets. "We are driven by the desire to provide convenience for our customers in keeping with our aim to make our outlets the customers’ destination station. The collaboration with FedEx is our latest commitment to add value to customer service."

PDB operates an extensive network of over 600 service stations strategically located throughout the country. To provide customers with a variety of conveniences, the Mesra stores are added to the service station network, based on a one-stop shopping concept to cater for the needs of busy customers. According to En Anuar, "Very soon, we will be extending the FedEx counter to other PETRONAS stations in the market centre areas to take advantage of this wide network."

Besides the latest FedEx counter facility, the Mesra store also provides other convenient services such as ATMs, post offices, bill payment kiosks, photocopy services, toll card reload and pharmacy. In addition it stocks a variety of products ranging from snacks, groceries, fast food, household and many other essential items.
