SMIOSS 2002 Participants Get First-Hand Look at FedEx Facilities

KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 2002 - FedEx Express (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, has unveiled a raft of activities and seminars as part of its support for the 3rd International Trade Fair for Small and Medium Industries (SMIOSS 2002), scheduled to be held from 13th - 16th June 2002 at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur

Tours of the FedEx MD-11 aircraft fleet, package sorting and distribution facilities, plus informative seminars, express delivery services for participants and a major conference address highlight the FedEx support for SMIOSS 2002.

FedEx is the Official Air Express Transportation Company for the event. The FedEx AsiaOne Network revolutionised overnight delivery in Asia when it first began in 1995, and remains the largest and strongest network today with connections to Europe and North America.

Themed Globalisation: The Challenges, The Opportunities, SMIOSS 2002 is the largest annual gathering of resource / solution providers for SMIs / SMEs. Its main mission is to tackle the unprecedented challenges as well as to explore and capitalise on the multiple opportunities for SMIs in the new era.

"We want to ensure that our support for SMIOSS 2002 extends well beyond that of a usual sponsorship," said Ramesh Kumar Singam, Managing Director, Malaysia and Brunei, FedEx.

"Our role in SMIOSS 2002 is an educator for participants, who will look to FedEx as a source of inspiration and for solutions to their transportation needs as more and more Malaysian businesses and industries extend into the international market."

Increased global trade through market liberalisation and e-commerce had created a positive environment for Malaysian businesses to reach out to new markets, Ramesh said, adding that air-express solutions are a critical factor in successful trading overseas.

"FedEx sees enormous international opportunities for small and medium sized Malaysian businesses. The key is getting products to market fast and we believe our support for SMIOSS 2002 will help SMIs and SMEs to realise the enormous benefits of air-express delivery."

Ramesh will lead small business people on tours of the FedEx wide-bodied MD-11 aircraft at Penang on Monday 3rd June and at KLIA on Tuesday 4th June. FedEx will also present a series of seminars for SMIs and SMEs during the SMIOSS 2002 event at Putra World Trade Centre.
