2003 Press Releases
Reinforcing its Commitment and Enhancing its Services to Meet Increasing Customer Demand
TAIPEI July 16, 2003 -- FedEx Express, the world¡¦s largest express transportation company, today celebrated the first anniversary of its CKS Transshipment Center in Taiwan.
"FedEx CKS Transshipment Center has been playing a crucial role for our business in Taiwan. It is one of our targeted investments in the region, which has yielded fruitful results over the past year," said Mr. Eddy Chan, FedEx's Regional Vice President in China and the Mid Pacific.
Mr. Chan emphasized the importance of Taiwan within FedEx¡¦s global and Asia network, in ensuring the consistent flow of goods from Asia to the rest of the world. FedEx has its own aircraft and employees at the CKS Transshipment Center to serve customers. In addition, the CKS Transshipment Center not only connects the AsiaOne network but also the "Round-The-World" flight that provides customers with connectivity to Europe and North America.
"There have been a number of initiatives and efforts taken by the Taiwan government to provide a healthy and competitive environment for businesses. For example, our strategic alliance with the Taipei Customs Bureau in June 2001 allows FedEx to perform self-inspection on import and export cargo, and is a good example of how the government is working with international businesses to enhance their competitiveness. We will continue to work with the Taiwan government to provide the highest quality service to our customers ," said Mr. Chan
To meet increasing demand from customers, with effect from July 21, FedEx will extend the cut-off time from 5:00pm to 7:00pm for customers in Greater Taipei area. Customers can now enjoy an additional two hours to tender their shipments to destinations in Asia, Europe and U.S. West Coast. Packages will be loaded onto a same-day flight, allowing deliveries to major Asian cities the next day and deliveries to U.S. West Coast the next morning local time. Packages to European cities will also be delivered on the second day.
"This enhancement reflects our commitment to provide the most reliable, time-definite, express services for customers. At FedEx, we are passionate about exceeding customer expecations, through the process of continuous enhancement. We believe the extension in cut-off time can provide customers with more convenience and flexibility, " said Mr. Jimmy Chen, Managing Director for FedEx in Taiwan.
FedEx established operations in Taiwan in 1990. In 1997, FedEx set up its first CKS International Airport transshipment center. FedEx currently employs a total of around 850 in Taiwan and has nine worldwide service centers and one transshipment center in Taiwan.
