Shipping Tips: Goods Description Diamonds and Stones Exports
To avoid shipments being delayed by customs, customers who export diamonds and stones are reminded to comply with the customs regulations for e-express shipments.
Rough diamonds may not be shipped using e-Express clearance, so enable shipment of other kinds of diamonds or stones it is important to specifiy what they are and to provide a clear description on the air waybill.
Some examples of a clear description are “diamond ring”, “diamond necklace”, “diamond earrings”, “diamond bracelet”, “polished diamond” and so on. You should specify the type of stone or finishing in order to make it absolutely clear that the shipment is not rough diamonds.
If the shipment is described simply as “diamonds”, “stone” or “cut diamonds”, the Thai customs authorities will assume that the shipment contains rough diamonds and they will not be accepted for processing through e-Express clearance and your shipment will be delayed.
Please therefore ensure that a clear description is provided on the air waybill.
In the case of rough diamond shipments, exporters must submit the Kimberley Process Certificate to Thai Customs and proceed using the normal clearance process.
