Holiday Shipping Tips
The information below will help to ensure your gift shipments reach your friends and relatives on time.
Documentation Required
- Air waybill (AWB) and commercial invoice (CI).
Tips on completing shipping documents
- Make sure you have the complete name, address and phone number of both the shipper and the consignee on the AWB and CI. The phone number is very important in case we need to contact the consignee directly if he is not available to receive the shipment or if more information is needed for clearance.
- Please state “Gift” in the shipment description section of the AWB and CI and provide a detailed description of your gift by answering "What is it?" and "What is it made of?" (e.g. Silver photo frame)
Important notes about “Gift”
- Customs departments in many countries state that a gift must be sent from an individual to an individual.
- Each country has prohibited items that are barred from entry. For example medicine and tobacco are prohibited from entry to France, dairy products are prohibited from entry to Australia. If you are not sure if your shipment contains prohibited items, feel free to call our Customer Service Team for advice.
- There are special requirements if your gift shipment contains food items destined for the US.
- In addition to AWB and CI, US customs requires a “Prior notice confirmation number* (PNC#)” if the food shipment has a declared value of USD200 or above. PNC# can be obtained from www.access.fda.gov.
- If the food shipment is a personal gift (under US$200 in declared value), PNC# is not required. However, both shipper and recipient must be individual persons and may not be companies.
- The shipment description must be as detailed as possible. For example: “Homemade (or store-bought) sugar cookies, for personal consumption; not for resale”.
