2005 Press Releases
BANGKOK, 22 February 2005 -- FedEx Express (FedEx), the world’s largest express transportation company, has become the first air express company in Thailand to offer a door-to-door service for classified and restricted goods through its own network, at a launch officiated by Dr. Vachara Phanchet, Vice Minister for Industry.
Operating under the company’s global International Priority Dangerous Goods (IPDG) certification, the launch of the service in Bangkok will give local businesses the ability to ship all classes of classified goods (excluding radioactive or explosive products) from their office or factory to their customer’s front door, within Asia, and to or from Europe and North America.
Mr. Clifton Chua, Managing Director of FedEx Thailand, Philippines and Indochina said at the launch “With the growing interest and continued growth in Thailand’s chemical production, and the investment in and development of the biotechnology sector, FedEx is poised to play a significant role in facilitating the growth of these important industries.”
Beneficiaries of this new door-to-door service include Thailand’s fast developing biotechnology sector, chemical research organisations, and the automotive and aerospace industry for the transportation of high-value engines with residual fuel, batteries, specialised paints and polymers, diagnostic samples and products requiring dry-ice for transport.
“The introduction of this new service is in direct response to customers’ demand for door-to-door services to and from Bangkok, and another example of how FedEx continues to enhance our services to customers throughout the kingdom, and supports the strong export demand for these goods in the global marketplace” said Mr. Chua.
The Thai government has identified biotechnology as a high priority sector under the National Biotechnology Policy Framework (2004-2011), with expectations of more than 5,000 million baht invested in research and development in Thailand in 2011. In addition, the government expects over 100 new companies to be established and to achieve over 30 billion baht in revenue annually by 2011. To support this, the Thai government and trade and investment agencies are supporting new partnerships between local and international businesses or organisations.
“FedEx is keen to play a significant role in facilitating the growth of import and export sectors. Our support will be also critical to the development of the fast-growing biotechnology sector and the medical, research and chemical industries in Thailand.,” added Mr Chua.
In order to provide the best service available, FedEx has invested in the areas of staff training and upgrades to station facilities, and all shipments with classified goods are handled by FedEx in accordance with International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations for air transport and FedEx’s terms and conditions.
FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., connects areas that generate 90% of the world's gross domestic product in one to three business days with door-to-door, customs-cleared service and a money-back guarantee. The company’s unmatched air route authorities and infrastructure make it the world's largest express transportation company, providing fast, reliable and time-definite transportation of approximately 3.2 million packages to more than 220 countries and territories each working day. FedEx Express employs more than 137,000 employees and has approximately 50,000 drop-off locations, 663 aircraft and more than 41,000 motorized vehicles in its integrated global network.
