FedEd to Extend Call-in Cut-off Times in Central Taiwan

Customers to enjoy more convenient express services and deliveries from same-day flight

TAIPEI, October 1, 2004 -- FedEx Express (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, today announced that the same-day flight call-in cut-off times in the designated areas of Taichung and Hsinchu will be extended by up to five hours to as late as 5:00 p.m. starting from October 4, 2004.

The service enhancement provides customers in Taichung and Hsinchu with greater flexibilities in arranging their shipments with the later cut-off times. Customers can call the FedEx customer service hotline prior to the cut-off times and packages will then be delivered to 19 major Asian cities at FedEx's AsiaOne®network and cities along both the East and West Coast of U.S. the next day. Packages to European cities at FedEx's EuroOne® network will also be delivered two to three days after.

Taichung is one of the key technology development areas in Taiwan after the launch of the nation's third science-based industrial park, Taichung Science Park in October 2002. This was part of the initiatives to boost the country's economy and propel the research and development for new technologies. Under the government's technology development plan, Northern Taiwan will be dedicated for developing the semiconductor industry, while Southern Taiwan will be focused on developing optoelectronics industry and Central Taiwan will be for the nanotechnology industry. Currently, 60 high-tech companies have already committed to investing about US$5.78 billion to operate in the Park. By 2008, the total output value from Taiwan's nanotechnology-related industries is expected to reach approximately US$8.9 billion.

"At FedEx, we always listen to customers and continue to innovate to meet their needs and provide the right service at the right time," said Scott Williams, Managing Director of FedEx Taiwan. "We have started our planning in offering companies located in Taichung and Hsinchu more convenient and flexible express solutions when the government announced the goal of turning Taiwan into a Green Silicon Island by connecting high-tech companies in these two areas."

"The service enhancement once again underscores our commitment to Taiwan which is one of FedEx's fastest growing markets in Asia Pacific and is an important part of our global strategy. We will continue to launch a series of service enhancements that enable FedEx to be more responsive to the needs of our customers in Taiwan who can count on FedEx to simplify their lives and connect their businesses to the global marketplace," continued Williams.
