MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 2000--
FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX) today announced its next generation of electronic shipping services that will make it easier for customers to more proactively manage their shipping activities. Through the FedEx Ship Manager(TM) portfolio, customers can conveniently access FedEx Ground, FedEx Home Delivery, FedEx Express and, in some cases, even other carriers from one of several electronic solutions.
The FedEx Ship Manager solutions consist of hardware-, software- and web-based applications. Companies of any size now have a robust variety of electronic shipping solutions that can be tailored to their evolving business needs. The line debuts September 25th and will support US domestic and global shipping services.
"FedEx has a history of leadership and innovation in developing electronic shipping solutions. That leadership has taken our capabilities far beyond electronic package tracking - now, it's about helping businesses manage their shipping activities for greater productivity across the supply chain," said Henry Maier, FedEx vice president customer automation marketing. "Through the FedEx Ship Manager solutions, our customers are empowered to select from a broad range of transportation services and providers using the access channel that is best suited to their business environment."
FedEx was one of the earliest entrants into the eBusiness arena in 1984 with the introduction of FedEx PowerShip, a proprietary system enabling high-volume customers to connect to the company's global network. Since then, FedEx has continually raised the standards for electronic-shipping technologies. Other notable "firsts" include the earliest use of the Web to enable package shipping and package-status tracking and the first shipping API (application programming interface), which allows customers to integrate FedEx capabilities, such as shipping, tracking, rate quotes and e-mail notification into their Web site, e-commerce platform, intranet or other internal online systems or applications.
"FedEx has been an industry technology innovator for nearly 30 years, and once again we are delivering what our customers want--powerful, information-rich solutions that will help them run their businesses more efficiently," Maier said.
