MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 2000--Millions of
customers who use FedEx World Service Centers(R) and FedEx Authorized
ShipCenters(R) have a new shipping option this holiday season --
FedEx(R) Ground.
FedEx Ground is now available as a service option at 1,200
domestic FedEx World Service Centers (dedicated storefront shipping
sites) and more than 3,000 FedEx Authorized ShipCenters (independent
retail shipping centers), providing customers with convenient access
to a full range of quality delivery services in time for the holiday
shopping, and shipping, season.
In addition to the express delivery services of FedEx Express,
which include FedEx International Priority(R), FedEx Priority
Overnight(R), FedEx Standard Overnight(R) and FedEx Same Day(R), users
of the centers -- mostly small- to mid-sized businesses and
consumers -- now have access to FedEx Ground shipping solutions:

service launched by FedEx Ground in March 2000.

Ground.

"Including FedEx Ground in our portfolio of service-center
shipping options is part of our commitment to being a total, one-stop
resource for our customers," said T. Michael Glenn, executive vice
president of Market Development at FedEx Corp. "Business shippers that
already experience unmatched, personalized express service at our
World Service Centers will now enjoy that same level of service for
their ground shipments. And, just in time for the holiday season,
consumers will be able to take advantage of the reliable and
economical delivery options of our Ground network."
Nancy Engler, owner of two Mail Boxes Etc. stores in central New
Jersey, both of which are FedEx Authorized ShipCenters, said: "My
customers like to have choices, and we're happy to offer them the
option of shipping packages using FedEx Express and FedEx Ground.
"When customers hear that we offer FedEx Ground, they're
immediately interested," Engler said. "They like to be able to say,
`go ahead and ship it FedEx.'"
Independent retail shipping centers look to FedEx to provide
services that help them meet the varying needs of their customers,
both businesses and consumers. According to Engler, the staffs at
these neighborhood service centers wear many hats -- playing the role
of office manager to "road warriors," or sales people who work out of
their automobiles; helping southbound retirees or "snow birds" ship
their belongings to winter residences; and playing Santa to hundreds
of holiday-shoppers-turned-holiday-shippers throughout the month of
December.
"As we enter our peak shipping season, our customers' needs grow
significantly and our volumes hit the roof," Engler said. A veteran of
holiday shipping, Engler estimates that her stores' package volumes
more than double to as many as 500 packages a day during the first and
second weeks of December. "We're confident FedEx Ground will play a
big role in meeting the needs of our customers this holiday season."
