Printer-Friendly FedEx and Safe Kids Worldwide

FedEx Express is an industry leader in safety, which makes an alliance with Safe Kids Worldwide a perfect fit. Together, FedEx and Safe Kids Worldwide have created the Safe Kids Walk This Way program, celebrated each October on International Walk To School Day, to teach pedestrian safety to school children and to establish safer, more walkable communities.

"I can tell you from experience as a former FedEx driver myself, there is nothing more fearful for a FedEx courier than a child darting out in front of your truck. So this program is a perfect fit for us. It's not just a program... It's about kids." -David Bronczek, CEO FedEx Express

About Safe Kids Worldwide
Safety, volunteerism and community involvement are core values that FedEx and Safe Kids Worldwide share. Safe Kids Worldwide is the first and only international nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of unintentional childhood injury – the number one killer of children ages 14 and under. Its programs and initiatives advocate safety, promote the overall health and welfare of children and encourage communities across the nation and around the world to be more involved in the safety of their children.

About Walk This Way
Since its inception in 2000, Safe Kids Worldwide Walk This Way has expanded to cover over 400 schools in the United States, Canada, Brazil, China, South Korea, and the Phillippines.

FedEx Express, the exclusive corporate sponsor for this program, provides safety expertise and assists in the collection of research data to document the problems for child pedestrians. With FedEx financial assistance, Safe Kids Worldwide also helps fund pedestrian safety task forces in high-risk areas. FedEx employee volunteers conduct classroom education, escort children to and from school on International Walk to School Day and serve on school-based pedestrian safety committees.

About FedEx Employee Volunteers
FedEx encourages its employees, widely recognized for their "absolutely, positively" spirit, to volunteer their time to educate school children about pedestrian safety. On October 4, 2006, more than 1,000 FedEx Express employee volunteers in 100 cities are expected to participate with Safe Kids Worldwide.
