FedEx Support of Relief Efforts in Areas Affected by Hurricane Katrina
(09/07/2005)

FedEx and its employees and contractors are deeply saddened by the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.  The thoughts of everyone at FedEx are with the victims, survivors, and loved ones of those affected by this disaster.

FedEx is working directly with several of the organizations coordinating direct relief efforts, and is donating transportation services to help facilitate the distribution of equipment and supplies.  The company has also donated a $1 million in cash and charitable shipping to the American Red Cross, in addition to the more than $1 million FedEx contributes annually.

FedEx is also providing IT, technical and logistics support to the Emergency Management Services across the region, including FedEx Kinko’s facilities, copying and supplies to emergency centers in Louisiana.

To date, FedEx has moved approximately 918 tons of relief shipments – including 60 tons of American Red Cross equipment to strategic locations before the storm hit.  These shipments include:

  • American Red Cross relief supplies to the affected areas in Louisiana and Mississippi.
  • American Red Cross cots and hygiene kits to evacuees at the Houston Astrodome.
  • Heart to Heart International relief donations to Baton Rouge.
  • Medicine shipments from Direct Relief International to Little Rock, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Jackson.
  • Food shipments from America’s Second Harvest to Memphis and Mobile.
  • Relief supplies to Alexandria, LA.

FedEx encourages customers and its employees and contractors who would like to help the victims of this crisis to contact disaster relief organizations directly.  The company supports the efforts spearheaded by the following organizations:

American Red Cross
Heart to Heart International

Direct Relief International
America’s Second Harvest
