To become an independent contractor, candidates must be 21 or older; pass a Department of Transportation physical and drug scan; and have a satisfactory driving record. Candidates also must meet certain other requirements established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Although one year of commercial driving experience is preferred, FedEx Home Delivery offers driver-training courses to interested candidates.
