Printer-Friendly Team FedEx Continues to Roll in Third Weekend of Competitions
FedEx drivers continued to prove their outstanding safety skills at competitions held at opposite ends of the country this past weekend.
South Carolina
Jeffrey Wyder, a contractor for FedEx Ground based in Columbia, earned the second-place trophy in the 5-Axle Sleeper class, while FedEx Freight driver Chris McCoy followed with the third place finish. Chris is based in Florence. FedEx Ground contractor Brian McFaden ( Columbia) posted second place in the Step Van class. Jimmie Roberts (Mullins), a driver for FedEx Ground contractor C&E Trucking, grabbed the third-place spot in the 5-Axle class. Also representing FedEx Ground was contractor Chip Taylor, last year’s state champ in the Straight Truck class, who won the third-place trophy this year along with the Vehicle Condition Award for posting the highest score in the Pre-Trip Inspection. Finally, first-time competitor Terry Brayboy, a FedEx Freight driver in Florence, was named the South Carolina Rookie of the Year.
Northern California Regional
At the Northern California Regional TDC, held in Fresno, six FedEx drivers earned the right to compete at the state final on June 7.
Sacramento-based FedEx Freight drivers James Chilimidos and Kip Schelske captured first-place finishes in the 3-Axle and 4-Axle classes, respectively. FedEx Ground contractor Gary Martin (Sacramento), who finished third in the Twins class at the 2007 NTDC, earned a shot at returning to the national competition by finishing first in that class at the NoCal regional. Gavin Lee, a driver for FedEx Ground Home Delivery contractor BQ Express in Sacramento, won the Step van category. Rounding out the list of top finishers who advanced to the state final were Robert Hofford (FedEx Freight, Oakland) and John Anderson (FedEx National LTL, San Jose), who took third place in the Straight Truck and 4-Axle classes, respectively.
Next up for Team FedEx are the state competitions in Idaho, Tennessee, and New Mexico on May 2-3. Good luck to all of our competitors!
