The number of state champs for Team FedEx in 2009 reached 34 as two additional drivers earned the right to compete at the NTDC in Pittsburgh in August.
West Virginia
In the Mountain State, drivers from FedEx Freight had an excellent showing. Gerald Pugh (Parkersburg) captured the top spot in the Tank Truck class for his second state title in three years. Daryl England (Charleston) also earned a trip to the NTDC by winning the 4-Axle class.
Huntington-based drivers Williams Adkins and James May placed third in 4-Axle and Twins, respectively. Jamey Priddy (Charleston) was third in the Straight Truck class.
In addition, Arthur Thompson (Huntington) posted the highest score in the Pre-Trip Inspection.
At the event’s awards banquet, Bill Haycraft, regional safety manager for FedEx Freight, was recognized as the 2009 Safety Professional of the Year by the West Virginia Motor Truck Association. The Association also honored FedEx with two awards for outstanding achievement in highway safety. FedEx Freight was recognized in the 1-2 million miles local category, while FedEx Ground earned the distinction in the over 8 million miles combined category.
Oklahoma
In the Sooner State, our drivers from FedEx Express proved their safe-driving skills by winning the Team Trophy. Tulsa’s Randy Reed and Robin Timm earned second-place finishes in the 5-Axle and 3-Axle classes, respectively, while Larry Kendall was named Rookie of the Year.
