Integrated National Network

FedEx SmartPost has a completely integrated national network that picks up, sorts and delivers your packages directly to the Canada Post entry point. This means you benefit from a seamless process; less handling of your packages; and faster, more reliable deliveries.

• Pickup. We provide a custom-tailored pickup schedule to transfer your packages from your facility to ours. You can stage packages for us to pick up and load at a regular time, or we can stage a trailer at your fulfillment center, or that of a third party, for you to load at your convenience. Either way, we move your packages to our high-performing distribution facilities for same-day sorting.
• Scanning and Sorting. Scanners read package bar codes and cross-check them against merchant manifests. Packages are weighed, measured and logged in to our data-collection system. This system assigns thousands of packages per hour to the proper destination and sorters carry them to the appropriate chutes for loading.
• Customs Clearance. FedEx SmartPost International service reduces the complexity of shipping to Canada. Because the service is broker-inclusive, neither you nor your customers will be surprised with unexpected brokerage fees. We use your data to electronically clear packages through customs and minimize the chance of delays at the border, so there’s no paper documentation for you to complete. In addition, because duties and taxes are paid at entry, your customers aren’t inconvenienced with payment requirements at delivery. And should your customers wish to return an item, FedEx SmartPost International service offers an intra-country return solution that includes transportation to the U.S. and the ability to secure duty drawback.
• Delivery. Canada Post completes in-home delivery to your customers’ addresses or P.O. boxes. Alternatively, packages can also be held at a local post office. Throughout the delivery process, you can rely on state-of-the-art FedEx® technology to provide shipment visibility of your packages while they are en route to their destinations.
