Pocono – Post Race Report
FedEx Racing Team Finishes 43rd at Pocono
Denny Hamlin finished 43rd in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway after contact with the turn three wall on lap 14 resulted in terminal damage to the #11 FedEx Office Toyota Camry.
Hamlin started ninth after qualifying Friday with a lap of 50.239 seconds (179.144 mph) around the tricky triangle. A four-time Pocono champion, Hamlin and crew chief Darian Grubb were optimistic about the 400 mile race.
After a lap one crash involving Hamlin's Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Matt Kenseth, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Juan Pablo Montoya, the #11 restarted 10th and immediately gained two spots before the car's handling issues became obvious. "I tried to fight through it until the competition caution but I was getting run over from behind and just holding up traffic," said Hamlin. "Our car just broke loose and that was the end of it. It's frustrating, especially you know going to these race tracks where we've won so many times."
On the final restart of the race, Kasey Kahne powered by the outside of Jeff Gordon on the next to last lap to claim victory. The next NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race will be Sunday, August 11th at Watkins Glen International Speedway, scheduled for 1:00 pm ET and televised live on ESPN.
