Kansas – Pre Race Report
Denny Hamlin finished 20th in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Dover International Raceway, the third race of the 2013 Chase won by Jimmie Johnson. Hamlin started 18th in the #11 FedEx Freight Toyota after qualifying with a speed of 160.557 mph around the high banked "Monster Mile" and moved up two places right after the green flag fell. A caution for debris on lap 36 saw Denny pit for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment to fix a loose handling condition on entry into the corners. After 80 laps Denny had moved up to 12th, maintaining that position through his first green flag pit stop at lap 110, when Crew Chief Darian Grubb called for two rounds of wedge in the left rear in addition to four tires and fuel. By midway through the 400-lap race Denny had moved into the top-10, but on his final green flag pit stop of the day he was penalized for speeding on pit road, the result of his running out of fuel and not having a tachometer to judge his speed .
The Series now heads to Kansas Speedway for Sunday's 400-mile event on the 1.5-mile oval. Hamlin is making his first start of the season at Kansas this weekend, forced to miss the April event at the track while recovering from a back injury. Hamlin has one win and three top-five finishes in 10 career starts at Kansas, winning the spring 2012 race. In that event, Hamlin started fourth and led 32 laps en route to victory lane, his second win of a series-high five victories one year ago.

FedEx Racing Conversation – Denny HamlinHow will the team approach extra track time on Thursday to prepare for this weekend's race?
"Obviously, anytime you can get on the track and get some laps is a good thing. I am a little behind the eight ball since I missed the race at Kansas earlier this year, so getting on track Thursday will be helpful. Hopefully we'll be able to get some good notes that will help our setup for the rest of the weekend."
