"We take great pride in our sponsorship of the FedEx St. Jude Classic because it reflects our business and our dedication to the Memphis community."
Kevin Demsky
Managing Director, Sponsorship Marketing for FedEx
FedEx and St. Jude
Service and commitment have been the driving forces that have led FedEx Corporation to excellence in business. The company is proud to sponsor the FedEx St. Jude ClassicĀ® for the 19th year. Since 1986, FedEx has worked hand-in-hand with Youth Programs, Inc. to co-sponsor the PGA TOUR stop in Memphis. It has become one of the most prestigious events in professional golf.
"The $4.7 million purse and the prestigious Tournament Players Club (TPC) at Southwind course continue to assure that the FedEx St. Jude Classic will be one of the most attractive tournaments on the PGA TOUR," said Demsky.
Volunteers
The corporate volunteer effort, which numbers approximately 400 people, demonstrates the pride that FedEx employees take in this event. Many of these employees spend their annual vacation serving as caddies, hospitality stewards, standard bearers, player hospitality/concierge services, and Pro-Am assistants during the tournament.
As one member of the volunteer group said recently, "You don't get to see much golf during the week, if any, but you certainly grow to realize that you are part of something very special. Knowing that you assisted, in some small way, to help raise funds for St. Jude is a very heart-warming feeling!"
Tournament Contributions
In 2003 the tournament raised $600,000 for medical research at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Since 1970, when St. Jude became the event's sole beneficiary, the tournament's contributions to this world-renowned institution have totaledĀ almost $14.7 million. 91% of this amount, over $13.3 million, has come in the past 18 years alone - since FedEx Corporation became title sponsor of the event in 1986.
The 2004 FedEx St. Jude Classic will continue FedEx's commitment to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Memphis community while maintaining the heritage and tradition of one of the oldest stops on the PGA TOUR.
