FedEx and Kodak HK Jointly Launch Self-delivery Service in Hong Kong

Partnership will provide more convenient service and unique marketing strategy to create a win-win situation

HONG KONG, February 19, 2004 – FedEx Express (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, today announced that it will extend its partnership with Kodak (Hong Kong) Limited to Hong Kong by setting up FedEx self-delivery service counters in Kodak Express Shops, providing more drop-off points for customers to deliver their shipments.

This announcement of services in Hong Kong comes soon after the launch of a similar partnership with Kodak in Malaysia, where a total of eight Kodak stores across the Klang Valley offer FedEx services, providing Malaysian customers with more choice and convenience when sending packages overseas.

Introduction of innovative self-service concept extended to the Hong Kong express industry

As an initial step, FedEx has selected 12 Kodak Express Shops on Hong Kong Island for trial operation of the service counters. The selected shops are mainly located in areas where there is strong demand for international express service. Customers can deliver their shipments at anytime within the operating hours of the Kodak Express Shops, and the latest time for shipment drop-off is 10:00pm which is a 90-minute extension over the drop-off at the World Service Center.

All Kodak Express staff at participating shops have been professionally trained to assist customers with their International Priority shipments (below 25kg). The Kodak Express stores are equipped with FedEx shipping tools, including Air Waybills, Commercial Invoices and packaging envelops and boxes.

Strategic expansion of express network to benefit customers and create win-win situation

The strategic partnership between FedEx and Kodak began in 1999 in Taiwan when five Kodak Express shops were selected to start trial operation of self-delivery services. With high acclamation from Taiwan customers, the innovative service has now been expanded to over 126 Kodak Express shops on the island. Given the huge success in Taiwan, FedEx and Kodak extended the idea to eight Kodak Express shops in Beijing in early 2002. In just one year, the number of FedEx self-delivery service counters in China has increased to 90.

"Both FedEx and Kodak are committed to bringing convenience and efficiency to our customers. It is this alignment in business objectives that makes this partnership such a good fit and will allow us to provide more convenience through value-added services," said Peter Yin, Regional Vice President of FedEx, South Pacific.

"This new value-added service has no doubt created a win-win situation for Kodak and FedEx," said Terry Wong, Marketing Manager, Consumer and Professional Imaging of Kodak (Hong Kong) Limited. "The partnership not only provides customers with unrivaled convenience, but also brings more business for Kodak Express by enhancing the customer flow. With the successful experience in Taiwan and mainland China, both Kodak and FedEx are confident about this new initiative in Hong Kong."

Specifically in Malaysia, "feedback from customers has been very positive, as the partnership offers customers greater accessibility to FedEx services in the Klang Valley including Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and its outer areas. With these additional services, customers are able to balance speed and time definite delivery in ways that suit their needs." said Lily Tay, Managing Director of FedEx Malaysia and Brunei.

The Kodak partnership in Malaysia means that customers can drop off their shipments at selected Kodak stores from Mondays to Fridays, and before 3.00 p.m. on Saturdays. Packages dropped off before 4.30 p.m*. from Mondays to Fridays and before 12.00 p.m. on Saturdays will be uplifted the same day.
