Fuel Surcharge

See Previous Fuel Surcharges

The fuel surcharge percentage for FedEx Express services is subject to monthly adjustment based on a rounded average of the U.S. Gulf Coast (USGC) spot price for a gallon of kerosene-type jet fuel.

The fuel surcharge rate for FedEx Express® services applies to FedEx Express International export and import transportation charges published in Europe, the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and Africa.

This fuel surcharge does not apply to FedEx International Express Freight® (IXF) and FedEx International Airport-to-Airport® (ATA) services (where available). See the FedEx Express IXF & ATA Fuel Surcharge Table

Note that the US Department of Energy (EIA) has discontinued its publication of the Rotterdam (ARA) spot price for a gallon of kerosene-type jet fuel. Therefore, as of December 6th, 2010, FedEx will use the USGC (U.S. Gulf Coast Kerosene-Type Jet Fuel Spot Price) published by the EIA.

  • The prices in these indexes are published by the U.S. Department of Energy and FedEx is not responsible for the information provided.
  • There is a two-month lag between the fuel price index and the fuel surcharge. For example, the fuel surcharge for December 2010 is based on the October 2010 average spot price of fuel.

Fuel Surcharge

A fuel surcharge is levied on all domestic services.

The fuel surcharge is levied on the total invoice value per waybill prior to VAT being applied. The surcharge percentage will be reflected on your FedEx Express invoice. Information on the fuel surcharge for each month, if changed, will be available approximately two weeks before the surcharge is applicable.

The fuel surcharge is reviewed monthly in line with the change in the fuel price as published by the Department of Energy in South Africa on the first Wednesday of every month. The published fuel price for a particular month is used as the basis to determine the fuel price adjustment for the following month.

Fuel surcharge percentages and methods of calculation are subject to change without notice.
