Temporary Surcharge

Temporary Surcharge

Due to disruptions in the global supply chain in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, we announced a surcharge on all FedEx Express and TNT international parcel and freight shipments beginning April 6, 2020.

Air cargo capacity remains limited, and we are incurring incremental costs as we continue to adjust our international networks to best deliver much-needed goods and services in this constrained environment. Effective November 2, 2020, the surcharge amount for FedEx Express and TNT international parcel shipments originating from MEISA (UAE, India, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia, Botswana, Malawi, Kenya, Egypt*, Jordan*) and Europe and destined for the U.S. and Canada** has increased from $ 0.22/kg to $ 0.55/kg.

Also beginning November 2, 2020, please note that the name of the surcharge on all FedEx Express and TNT international parcel and freight shipments will change from Temporary Surcharge to Peak Surcharge.

The surcharge rate per kg will be applied depending on the Origin-Destination combination as shown below:

Surcharge Amount (KWD per Kilo)

Country Rate/KG
To US / Canada** To The Rest of the World
Kuwait KWD 0.2 KWD 0.1
Effective Date: November 2nd, 2020

Parcel Min. Charge: KWD 0.3 / Shipment

Freight Min. Charge: KWD 15 / Shipment

* Increase in surcharge rates from Egypt and Jordan is applicable only for TNT.

** In certain cases, the surcharge increase might impact Mexico and few other LAC destinations. Please reach out to your account executives or customer care for further details.

Applicable Surcharge amount will be the higher of the per kg rate OR Minimum amount. The above mentioned rates are subject to exchange rate fluctuations. The surcharges in other countries remain unchanged.

Why is FedEx instituting a surcharge during a global health crisis and what is the cost?

The disruption and uncertainty in the global cargo industry has increased our cost to serve. This temporary surcharge will allow us to continue providing service as effectively as possible until global market conditions return to normal.

How long will the surcharge remain in effect?

Until further notice. We will evaluate this surcharge on an ongoing basis. Market conditions are shifting rapidly as a result of the coronavirus. Our priority is to continue providing the best possible service to our customers during this period of uncertainty and rising cost to serve, and this surcharge allows us to do that.
