Edit and Hide

After selecting an account, the BOL screen will update to reflect your choice. All required sections will be viewable (or open). Sections that are not required for your shipment will remain hidden (or closed)
  • To open a closed section, click Edit at the top of the section.
  • To close an opened section, click Hide at the top of the section.

Create a Bill of Lading

Complete the required information on the Bill of Lading screen and click Submit to print, save as Template or email your Bill of Lading.

All required fields are noted with an asterisk (*).

Bill of Lading Type
The default setting for the BOL screen is the Straight Bill of Lading

To access the VICS Bill of Lading, click on the arrow within the BOL tab and select VICS within the drop down menu.

Account Selection
Select only one account number.

To locate the appropriate account number:
  1. Sort By – choose to sort your account list by company name or account number. After marking the appropriate option, your drop down menu will be sorted accordingly. Click on the arrow next to the drop down menu to select an account.
  2. Predictive Typing – type characters directly into the account drop down menu to narrow your search.
Payment Type / Terms
Let us know important information pertaining to the billing of your shipment: Select the appropriate shipper type for your shipment:
  • Shipper / Prepaid
  • Consignee / Collect
  • Third Party / Prepaid
  • Collect / Section 7 Signed – selecting this option will include a section of the BOL allowing the shipper to avoid liability for any shipment charges other than those billed to the shipper at the time of shipment.

Use one of the following options to enter or select the shipper information.
  • Select a saved entry from your Address Book.
  • Enter all required information for a new shipper. Once all fields have been completed, check Save to Address Book to retain shipping details for future shipments.

To
Use one of the following options to enter or select the recipient information.
  • Select a saved entry from your Address Book.
  • Enter all required information for a new recipient. Once all fields have been completed, check Save to Address Book to retain shipping details for future shipments.

Third Party Information
Use one of the following options to enter or select the third-party information.
  • Select a saved entry from your Address Book.
  • Enter all required information for a new third party. Once all fields have been completed, check Save to Address Book to retain shipping details for future shipments.


Service Selection
Click the appropriate service selection for your shipment. You are required to select either FedEx Freight Priority or FedEx Freight Economy for each shipment.

Additionally, you may select optional money back - guaranteed delivery options for your shipment. Note that additional fees tariff limitations may apply. You can learn more about each service offering by clicking on the product name.


Service Overview
  • FedEx Freight® Priority when speed is critical to meet your supply chain needs.
  • FedEx Freight® Economy for less time-sensitive shipping to meet your budget.


To add one of the money-back guaranteed service options, check the appropriate box. Please note that additional charges apply.
  • Close of Business Delivery - delivery by 5:00 p.m. local time on our published delivery day (Upcharge Amount to be applied) for both FedEx Freight Priority and FedEx Freight Economy shipments. Note: customers on the FedEx Freight 1000 Rate base receive this money-back guarantee at no-charge for FedEx Freight Priority shipments.
  • A.M. Delivery - delivery by 10:30 a.m. on the standard due date (Upcharge amount to be applied) Note: This service is not available to every ZIP code. You can check ZIP code availability at: http://www.freightam.com/. This service is available for both FedEx Freight Priority and FedEx Freight Economy shipments.



Shipment Details
Enter as much information as possible about your shipment. Required fields are noted with an asterisk(*).

Use information saved in your Item List to auto-populate these fields. Click Select from  Item List to be linked to details about your frequently shipped items.
  • BOL number – if applicable, enter a BOL number for your records
  • PO number – if applicable, enter a PO number for your records
  • Handling Units – let us know the number of primary handling units in the total shipment, i.e. the number of pallets
  • Packaging Types – from the drop down menu select the packaging type that best describes your shipment
  • Pieces – enter the total number of pieces included in the shipment
  • Class – let us know the class designation for your shipment, between 50 and 500. For a quick and easy way to get a classification estimate, use the LTL Freight Classification Tool. You can also contact Customer Service at 1.866.393.4585. Be sure to note each commodity separately.
  • Weight – enter the total weight of the shipment
  • HM – check this box if your shipment contains HazMat materials. Note – you will be required to enter an emergency phone number.
  • NMFC – enter the National Motor Freight Classification item number here. For help determining your commodity classification number, please contact Customer Service at 1.866.393.4585.4585.
  • Cubic Feet – to calculate the cubic feet for your shipment, multiply the shipment’s total height x width x length (in inches). Click Cubic Feet to be directed to an easy-to-use calculator.
  • Description – add descriptive information about each piece of your shipment

Use the Add row and Remove row buttons to adjust the size of this section to match your shipment size.

PRO Number
If you would like to pre-assign your own PRO (or tracking) number, mark Yes and follow these instructions:
  • FedEx Freight shipments: a PRO number and barcode will be automatically generated and will appear on your final BOL

Submit Pick-up with BOL
Communicate your shipment information in two ways:
  • Only create bill of lading – select this option to create a final version of your documents to be viewed and printed
  • Create bill of lading and submit pickup – if your shipment is ready for pickup, select this option to submit your shipment information to the local Service Center. You will be required to enter additional details about your pickup such as your dock hours and direct contact information.

When sending hazardous materials, an emergency response provider person name or contract number is required.

Shipment Options

Create Shipping Labels
To simplify your packaging process, you can print shipping labels that correspond to your BOL for each piece of your shipment.

Please note the number of labels needed, as well as how you’d like them to print. Your shipping labels will be available to print along with your final BOL.

Special Instructions
Enter additional details you would like the driver and freight handlers to know about your shipment.

Custom Delivery
Let us know any specific dates and times that may impact the delivery of your shipment.
  • Enter a requested delivery time using the HH:MM format.
  • Enter a requested date or date range for the delivery. Click on the (insert symbol) symbol for a reference calendar.

C. O. D. (Collect on Delivery)
Enter all required information for the fees to be collected upon delivery.

A country code is required. For help determining the appropriate country code, use the link at the bottom of the section to review a detailed reference list.

Declared Value
Where your shipping rate is dependent on the value of your shipment, you must indicate in writing the agreed up declared value of the property.

When completing this section, clearly note the value (in US Dollars) per unit of your shipment, i.e. $30 per pound.

You must also check the appropriate box noting that the items shipped are either new or used / reconditioned. When shipping new items, you may request additional Excess Liability Coverage, up to $50 per pound per package.

E-mail Notification
Send the completed BOL, shipping labels, or both to all parties noted on the form such as the shipper, consignee and third-party.

You can enter up to three email addresses for additional interested parties.

International Shipment Broker Information
Enter all required contact information for your shipment broker.

A country code is required. For help determining the appropriate country code, use the link at the bottom of the section to review a detailed reference list.

Save as Template
If you will be sending a similar shipment in the future, click this button to save your shipment details in a template for future use.

After selecting this option, you will be asked to provide a customized template name. You will be able to access the saved information for future shipments using the Templates tab at the top of the screen.

Rate this Shipment
Click this button to transfer all of your shipment details to the Rate application. You will be able to calculate a rate for this shipment without having to re-enter the information.

Using Item Lists

Use previously saved item and category information to complete the Shipment Details portion of the BOL.

From the main BOL screen, click Select from Item List at the top of the Shipment Details section. In a separate screen, you’ll have access to all of your saved information. Find a specific item in two ways:
  1. Use the drop-down menu at the top of the screen to select a specific category to narrow down your search. Check Add next to the appropriate item and update the pieces and weight for the current shipment. Click Submit to add this information to your BOL.
  2. If the item does not fall into a specific category, scroll through the item list to find the appropriate item. Check Add next to the appropriate item and update the pieces and weight for the current shipment. Click Submit to add this information to your BOL.
Using Address Books

Use previously saved contact information for your frequently used shippers, consignees and third-parties to complete the To, From and Third-Party contact details.

From the main BOL screen, click Select from Address Book at the top of each contact section. In a separate screen, you’ll have access to all of your Address Book details. Find a specific address in two ways:
  1. Search by name, store number or city/state. Mark the circle next to the appropriate search criteria, enter your detailed search information in the space available, then click Go.
  2. Alphabet listing. Click the letter of the alphabet corresponding to the contact name you are searching for.
Click on the appropriate contact name to add these contact details to your Bill of Lading.
