Section 7 — Download


Overview

Besides creating reports, FedEx Return Manager provides an option to have reports downloaded to your computer.

Opening a Download file

FedEx Return Manager Download files are saved as a Comma Separated Value (.csv) file extension and when opened in Excel automatically open as a Text file. The instructions that follow explain how to open the file as a Text File (.csv) and instructions on how to convert the Text file (.csv) to a Microsoft Excel file (.xls).

Instructions for Opening the Download as a Text File (Default)

Once the file has been saved to the desired location using Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla/Firefox, to open the file follow the steps outlined below.

  1. Open a Microsoft® Excel spread sheet.
  2. Click "File" from the navigation bar.
  3. Within the "File" listing, select "Open".
  4. Click the drop-down arrow in the "Look in:" field to locate where the file was saved.
  5. Change the "Files of type" drop-down menu to "All Files from Microsoft Office Excel Files (.xls)"
  6. Select on the downloaded (Microsoft Office Excel Comma Separated Values File-CSV) file name.
  7. Click "Open".
The imported text file displays within Microsoft Excel and is available for use.

Instructions for Opening and Converting the Download Text File to Microsoft Excel

The following instructions apply only for Microsoft Office Excel v.2003

  1. Open a Microsoft® Excel spread sheet.
    NOTE: Make sure your cursor in the first position of Column A and Row 1
  2. Click "Data" from the navigation bar
  3. Within the "Data" listing, select "Import External Data".
  4. Select "Import Data". Upon selecting "Import Data", the Select Data Source dialog box displays as shown below.

  5. Click the drop-down arrow in the "Look in:" field to locate where the file was saved.
  6. Change the "Files of type" drop-down menu to "All Files from Microsoft Office Excel Files (.xls)"
  7. Double-click on the downloaded (Microsoft Office Excel Comma Separated Values File-CSV) file name to advance to the Text Import Wizard screen.

  1. Click Next to advance to Step 2 of the wizard.
    NOTE: Do not modify anything on this screen.

At the Text Import Wizard - Step 2 of 3 screen, continue with the following steps.
  1. Deselect "Delimiters" Tab checkbox.
  2. Select "Other:" delimiter and in the "Other" field box, press the "shift+6 key to insert the ^ symbol."
The Data preview” box will display data in columns.
  1. Click the "Next" button to advance to Step 3.

The Text Import Wizard – Step 3 of 3 dialog box displays as illustrated below.
  1. Click the "Finish" button

Upon clicking the "Finish" button, the Import Data screen displays.
  1. Select the desired "Where do you want to put the data?" radio button.
    NOTE: It defaults to the "Existing worksheet:"
  2. Click the "OK" button to import the data.

The imported converted file displays as shown in the example below.



Heads Up The "Existing worksheet:" field displays what Column and Row your cursor is currently in so be sure that is where you want the data imported.
