Packing your freight correctly helps to ensure that your goods arrive safely. The steps below outline some useful packing tips for palletised items.
1. Choose the right pallet
Use a pallet that is large enough so that your shipment does not overhang the edges.
Make sure it’s in a good condition.
We recommend that you use; Standard wood pallets or plastic pallets.
Avoid using; wood pallets without bottom boards, corrugated pallets and processed wood pallets.
2. Stack in columns
Stack the boxes in columns and try to distribute the weight evenly across the pallet.
Shipments including non-stackable pallets will incur a surcharge.
3. Do not overhang
Pallets which have items over hanging them can become damaged easily and will not be accepted.
4. Keep it flat
Keep the top level of the pallet flat to minimise risk of loss or damage to cartons.
Shipments including non-stackable pallets will incur a surcharge.
5. Label
Remove old labels.
For pouches, peel off the strip and seal the flap.
To make sure it sticks perfectly your shipment, we recommend you to put the label on the boxes not the plastic.
Indicate with a label if your pallet is non-stackable in which case your shipment will incur a surcharge.
6. Secure the shipments on the pallet
When shrink wrapping the items on the pallet, ensure that the shrink wrap goes around the base of the pallet as well.
Use strapping or banding to secure your shipment to the pallet.
Imperfect packaging puts your goods, other shipments, and our FedEx team members at risk. Your shipment must comply with our condition of carriage. Drivers are allowed to refuse packaging such as:
Unattached items
Everything must be attached to the pallet with strapping and/or wrapping to form a single, inseparable unit.
Low-quality pallets
No poor-quality or damaged pallets.
Overhanging pallets
Items must not exceed the dimensions of the pallet.
