What you need to know to ship lithium batteries?
Required Documents
- Shipper's Declaration required.
- Ensure the FedEx air waybill indicates the following statements "Dangerous Goods as per associated Shippers Declaration” and “Cargo Aircraft Only”.
- Lithium ion batteries must be offered for transport at a state of charge (SoC) not exceeding 30% of their rated capacity.
- Lithium ion batteries with a state of charge greater than 30% of their rated capacity may only be offered for transport, on cargo aircraft only, with the prior approval of the State of Origin and the State of the Operator under the written conditions established by those authorities.
Required Packaging and Labelling
- UN specification packaging required (must meet Packing Group II standards).
- Class 9 Lithium Batteries or Sodium Ion Batteries Label (Figure 1) with a CAO Label (Figure 2) affixed on the same surface.
