What you need to know to ship lithium batteries?

Required Documents

  • Shipper's Declaration required.

  • Ensure the FedEx air waybill indicates the following statements "Dangerous Goods as per associated Shippers Declaration" and "Cargo Aircraft Only".

  • The letters "IB" must be entered on the Shipper's Declaration either:

    • after the packing instruction number, or

    • in the authorization column.
       
  • Lithium ion batteries must be offered for transport at a state of charge (SoC) not exceeding 30% of their rated capacity.

  • Lithium ion batteries with a state of charge greater than 30% of their rated capacity may only be offered for transport, on cargo aircraft only, with the prior approval of the State of Origin and the State of the Operator under the written conditions established by those authorities.
     

Required Packaging and Labelling

  • Strong rigid outer packaging.

  • Completed Battery Mark (Figure 1) with a CAO Label (Figure 3) on the same surface with Class 9 Lithium Batteries or Sodium Ion Batteries Label (Figure 2).
