What you need to know to ship lithium batteries?
Required Documents
- Shipper’s Declaration not required.
- For packages bearing the Battery Mark, the statement “Lithium metal batteries in compliance with Section II of PI970” must be indicated on the FedEx air waybill. This statement is not required on the air waybill for packages that do not require the Battery Mark.
Required Packaging and Labelling
- Strong rigid outer packaging.
- Completed Battery Mark (Figure 1).
- This requirement does not apply to packages containing only button cell batteries installed in equipment (including circuit boards) or:
- consignments of two packages or less where each package contains no more than four cells or two batteries installed in equipment.

1 India: Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore with Broker Select Option and Hold at Airport.
2 Indonesia: Only accept from Jakarta and Batam.
3 Japan: Outbound from Sanbu-Gun Shibayama-Machi only.
4 Philippines: Service limited to BNQ (Pasay City), CUJ (Cavite), CYU (Clark), CYZ (Quezon City), LWA (Laguna), MNL (Manila), PAG (Pasig) and SFE (Subic) locations only.
5 ALASKA (USA):
- Dangerous goods are prohibited to/from locations BRW and PUO in Anchorage, Alaska. This includes all Section II lithium battery shipments bearing the Lithium Battery Mark.
- Dangerous goods are prohibited to/from locations Juneau (JNU), Ketchikan (KTN), and Sitka (SIT) however Section II lithium batteries bearing the Lithium Battery Mark without the CARGO AIRCRAFT ONLY label can be accepted to/from these locations.
HAWAII (USA): Dangerous goods are prohibited to/from the Kalaupapa area of the island of Molokai however Section II lithium batteries bearing the Lithium Battery Mark without the CARGO AIRCRAFT ONLY label can be accepted to/from these locations.
6 Thailand: Lithium battery shipments to HHQX (Bangna, Samutprakarn), NAKA (Nakorn Ratchasima), HKTA (Phuket), CNXA (Chiang Mai) and LPTA (Lumpoon) must use “Broker Select Option” service only (no FedEx clearance and no FedEx delivery). Lithium battery shipments have a daily storage fee.
