What you need to know to ship lithium batteries?


Required Documents

  • Shipper's Declaration required.

  • Ensure the FedEx air waybill indicates the following statements “Dangerous Goods as per attached Shipper's Declaration” and “Cargo Aircraft Only”.

  • Shipper must be on the Section I (IA/IB) preapproval list (FX-05B):

    • How to obtain pre-approval:

    • Select Get Started, then select Lithium Batteries.
       
    • Select What training and approvals are required.
       
  • The letters “IB” must be entered on the Shipper’s Declaration either:

    • after the packing instruction number, or

    • in the authorization column.
       

Required Packaging and Labelling

  • Strong rigid outer packaging.

  • Completed Lithium Battery Mark (Figure 1) with a CAO Label (Figure 3) on the same surface with Class 9 Lithium Battery Label (Figure 2).

Surcharges

IDG surcharge: Yes.

JPY 7,260 per shipment or JPY 110 per kg, whichever is greater. A minimum billable weight may apply.
