What you need to know to ship lithium batteries?
Required Documents
- Shipper's Declaration required.
- Ensure the FedEx air waybill indicates the following statements "Dangerous Goods as per associated Shippers Declaration" and "Cargo Aircraft Only".
- The letters "IB" must be entered on the Shipper's Declaration either:
- after the packing instruction number, or
- in the authorization column.
- after the packing instruction number, or
Required Packaging and Labelling
- Strong rigid outer packaging.
- Completed Battery Mark (Figure 1) with a CAO Label (Figure 3) on the same surface with Class 9 Lithium Batteries or Sodium Ion Batteries Label (Figure 2).

Surcharges
IDG surcharge: Yes.
NZD 128.30 per shipment or NZD 1.30 per kg, whichever is greater. A minimum billable weight may apply.

FedEx Authorized Service Center® locations do not accept any lithium battery shipments.

1 Philippines: Service limited to BNQ (Pasay City), CUJ (Cavite), CYU (Clark), CYZ (Quezon City), LWA (Laguna), MNL (Manila), PAG (Pasig) and SFE (Subic) locations only.
2 Thailand: Lithium battery shipment to locations HHQX (Bangna, Samutprakarn), NAKA (Nakorn Ratchasima), HKTA (Phuket), CNXA (Chiang Mai) and LPTA (Lumpoon) must use Broker Select Option service only (no FedEx clearance and no FedEx delivery). Lithium battery shipments have a daily storage fee.
3 ALASKA (USA):
- Dangerous goods are prohibited to/from locations BRW and PUO in Anchorage, Alaska. This includes all Section II lithium battery shipments bearing the Lithium Battery Mark.
- Dangerous goods are prohibited to/from locations Juneau (JNU), Ketchikan (KTN), and Sitka (SIT) however Section II lithium batteries bearing the Lithium Battery Mark without the CARGO AIRCRAFT ONLY label can be accepted to/from these locations.
HAWAII (USA): Dangerous goods are prohibited to/from the Kalaupapa area of the island of Molokai however Section II lithium batteries bearing the Lithium Battery Mark without the CARGO AIRCRAFT ONLY label can be accepted to/from these locations.
4 Indonesia: JKTA (Jakarta), HLPA (Halim Perdanakusuma), CGKA (Soekarno-Hatta), CXPA (Tunggul Wulung), TSYC (Tasikmalaya Cibeureum), KWBC (Dewadaru), BTHA (Hang Nadim)
