What you need to know to ship lithium batteries?
Required Documents
- Shipper’s Declaration not required.
- For packages bearing the Lithium Battery Mark, the statement “Lithium metal batteries in compliance with Section II of PI970” must be indicated on the FedEx air waybill. This statement is not required on the air waybill for packages that do not require the Lithium Battery Mark.
Required Packaging and Labelling
- Strong rigid outer packaging.
- Completed Lithium Battery Mark (Figure 1):
- This requirement does not apply to packages containing only button cell batteries installed in equipment (including circuit boards); or
- Consignments of two packages or less where each package contains no more than four cells or two batteries installed in equipment.
- This requirement does not apply to packages containing only button cell batteries installed in equipment (including circuit boards); or

HAWAII (USA): Dangerous goods are prohibited to/from the Kalaupapa area of the island of Molokai however Section II lithium batteries bearing the Lithium Battery Mark without the CARGO AIRCRAFT ONLY label can be accepted to/from these locations.
