TNT to FedEx: key differences
Key topics to understand the changes before moving from TNT to FedEx.
Here you’ll find the key changes to understand while you’re moving over to FedEx, so you can move forward as smooth as possible.
Get familiar with these changes
For a limited period after your move, you’ll continue to have access to your shipment history and address book in myTNT, so your contact data is not immediately lost. In case it’s necessary, contacts can be exported from myTNT (or another tool) and imported manually using a supported CSV file.
FedEx Ship Manager™ at fedex.com allows you to upload contacts into a personal or company address book, depending on your needs. Please ensure the correct file format is used and review imported contacts for duplicates or missing required fields.
Invoices are issued electronically and can be viewed, downloaded, paid, or disputed through FedEx® Billing Online. The due date is clearly stated on each invoice.
After your move, all shipments are subject to FedEx payment and credit terms, which may differ from your previous TNT conditions.
If you had a sender-books/receiver-pays arrangement with TNT, this can continue after your move if both parties have active FedEx accounts. The payer must activate their account and share their account number with the sender, who books shipments using that number with permission. Once a TNT account is deactivated, it can no longer be selected for billing, and shipments must be processed through FedEx. Make sure there is clear communication between sender and receiver, it will help avoid booking errors and billing disruptions.
Unlike TNT quotes, which typically included transportation charges only, FedEx quotes are more comprehensive. The easiest and most accurate way to get a quote is to login to your FedEx account, where your account-specific rates and applicable surcharges are taken into account based on the shipment details provided.
However, the quote remains an estimate. Some surcharges or additional fees can only be determined once the shipment is collected and processed. As a result, the final invoice may differ depending on the shipment actually tendered and the applicable shipping conditions. You can review the most up-to-date rates and surcharge details on fedex.com, and all charges are applied in accordance with FedEx conditions of carriage.
With TNT, you could request a single pick-up for a mix of parcels and freight on the same day. With FedEx, you’ll need to order separate pickups for parcel and freight shipments. (Shipments weighing more than 68 kg must be booked as freight.)
You’ll find support, videos and tutorials at "Getting Started with FedEx" hub, including step-by-step guidance to setup and use your FedEx account. FedEx Ship Manager™ is the primary online shipping tool and is supported by additional guides and FAQs to help you adapt smoothly.
