What’s It Like To Be A Woman In Logistics? 4 FedEx Team Members Share Their Journeys
By FedEx | First published: March 8, 2024 Updated: August 21, 2026
From engineers to managers, women are making their mark across the traditionally male-dominated logistics industry. Meet four women from FedEx Australia, who share their experiences and advice on building a rewarding career in logistics.
The world of transportation and logistics has long been viewed as male-dominated. For many women, breaking into – and progressing within – this industry can be challenging. However, the tide is turning – particularly at FedEx, where creating opportunities for all is central to our long-term success.
FedEx’s deep commitment to supporting gender diversity in logistics is helping to push the boundaries of what’s possible in leadership, inclusion, and corporate culture. In the Philippines, for example, FedEx has achieved a remarkable 53% female representation in management, backed by a strong mentoring culture and leadership development programs.
In Taiwan, where around 40% of our team members are women, we have consistently won recognition for our inclusive workplace practices. This includes the Silver Award in the 2024 Taipei City Workplace Gender Equality Certification program and the Annual DEI Enterprise Golden Award at the 2025 Diversity for Better Tomorrow Awards (DBTA).
Indeed, FedEx has a strong track record of empowering women in logistics. Many of our female leaders entered the company in entry-level positions and subsequently progressed into management roles. One such leader is Kawal Preet, formerly Regional President of Asia Pacific and now Executive Vice President (EVP) of Planning, Engineering and Transformation, who was named on Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Asia list in 2025.
So what’s it like to be a woman in logistics today, and what makes logistics work fulfilling? We asked four team members who have built successful careers at FedEx Australia to share their journeys and lessons learned for those looking to start a career in logistics.
What inspired you to join the industry, and more specifically, FedEx?
Anna Blackman, Gateway Manager: The transport and logistics industry has long been a thriving sector. Even in times of economic struggle, the industry continues to grow and innovate. You will never be bored, as no two days are ever the same. The dynamic nature of the work makes each day challenging yet fulfilling.
The industry is full of opportunities for career progression, and you can change your day-to-day environment by spending time in different locations, from office to warehouse. You’re also exposed to new technology as part of a highly motivated team that drives business forward.
Nicoleen Itao, Operations Admin: The industry offers advancement opportunities. I initially worked for TNT when it was being integrated into FedEx. I was excited about the entire integration process, and I wanted to grow with the company. I stayed because the culture values of FedEx are the same values that I advocate for.
Linda Perez, Gateway Operations Manager: For me, it’s the challenge. They say that being a woman in transportation and logistics can be challenging, especially in operations. But this was never an issue for me, thanks to the teams I’ve been privileged to be a part of over the years.
It’s amazing to receive continual encouragement and support, not only from my team but also from other departments I collaborate with.
How has your professional journey at FedEx shaped you?
Anna: Having the drive and determination to start at the bottom of the ladder and work my way up is one thing I’ve been particularly proud of. Especially when I’ve been able to show the people who doubted my abilities that I am more than capable.
Linda: When I first started, I had no experience in logistics, transport, or even leadership. During my time at FedEx, it was the on-the-job training and my willingness to learn and grow that led me to a leadership role after two years.
Nicoleen: Everyone I’ve met, in one way or another, has helped me to get to where I am today. My colleagues, supervisors, and managers have provided me with consistent mentorship support and encouragement.
Recently, I’ve met senior managers and managing directors here who have inspired me to maintain a growth mindset. I love that the FedEx culture encourages us to see that the possibilities for progression are endless. I am continuously inspired to be the best version of myself, not just at work, but also in my personal life.
Christine Joyce Beltran, Engineer: As an engineer, I need to have a holistic view of every project and the opportunities for improvement. The ups and downs of a project are what develops my resilience and determination to keep improving. That’s what shapes me to be the best version of myself every day.
What advice would you give young women wondering how to start a career in logistics?
Anna: Do it! But remember that it will come with challenges. Keep pushing. Have the difficult conversations. Keep asking the questions no one else wants to ask. Act with integrity in all that you do. Know that success does not happen overnight.
Believe in what you do, even if no one else does. As individuals, we have the power to change things if we have the determination to see them through.
Just because something has been done a certain way forever doesn’t mean it is the right way or that we can’t change it. As the saying goes, “Speak your truth, even if your voice shakes.”
Linda: Give it a go and make sure to surround yourself with positive people. Don’t give up at the first roadblock or failure. You need to learn from failure to grow.
Christine: A successful career in the industry is not and should not be limited by gender. Your skills, knowledge, and determination can help shape a rewarding career in this dynamic field. Believe in yourself and your abilities.
Nicoleen: My advice for young women? There’s no reason to be intimidated. Regardless of your gender, you are capable of great achievements in the industry. Believe in your potential and always think ahead to what you want to achieve next.
The transportation and logistics industry is an ever-changing and rewarding environment. Commit to continuous learning and strive to give your best in every single opportunity that arises. These are the traits that will make you successful.
Empowering women in logistics to thrive
For these four women of FedEx, a career in logistics has set them on an exciting path of growth and self-development. Their journeys prove that what matters most in logistics work is the determination to give one’s best, regardless of gender.
By embracing gender diversity in logistics, we can foster innovation, enhance employee engagement, and maximize the potential of all our team members. At FedEx, this commitment to building an inclusive culture is what sharpens our competitive edge – ultimately allowing us to deliver exceptional experiences for our people, customers, and communities.
