FedEx announced the winners of its 2016 FedEx Driving Skills competition. The initiative involved a month-long driving safety campaign held across five recognized UAE universities and aimed to increase awareness of the importance of traffic safety amongst UAE youth.
The latest statistics from Dubai Police show that the rate of accidents is unusually high in the 18- 24 age-group. These statistics are especially worrying when we consider that drivers within this demographic are newly-licensed, and therefore should be able to tackle challenges on the road in a safe way. The FedEx Driving Skills campaign incorporates classroom-style training sessions and driving simulations. Participants are then invited to test their newly acquired safety skills on a track. Students with the fastest safely-driven lap were declared winners. Students can thus benefit from dedicated time with professional trainers who teach life safety skills that are essential for any individual’s future.
“Safe driving is not only something that we require from our young drivers. It is an imperative skill for every road user to understand and practice. By teaching students in the UAE to manage their vehicle and driving experience in a safe way, we hope to encourage a more safety-conscious road environment,” said Nathalie Amiel-Ferrault, Vice President, Customer Experience, Marketing & Communications for FedEx Express Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.
The FedEx Driving Skills Challenge was launched in 2013 by FedEx and is endorsed by Dubai Police. The 2016 edition included over 2000 hours of teaching and simulation sessions, and reached out to over 1000 students, raising awareness on the importance of traffic safety.
