FedEx Privacy Statement


This privacy policy sets forth the policy of Federal Express Corporation, Korea Branch (“FedEx” or “we”) with respect to the management and administration of personal information of registered and non-registered users of FedEx website (collectively, “Customers” and individually, a “Customer”).

General Rules



(1) FedEx will collect the minimum amount of information from its Customers necessary to provide its services to the Customer. FedEx understands the importance of protecting the personal information of its Customers. FedEx has established appropriate safeguards to protect such information and will take all appropriate actions to protect the personal information of its Customers. FedEx is in compliance with the laws relating to the Promotion of Information Telecommunication Network Use and Protection of Information, which protects personal information, as well as the Directive on the Protection of Personal Information issued by the Ministry of Information and Communication.

(2) Our privacy policy may change pursuant to, among other things, changes in the applicable laws and regulations, government policy or our internal policy. In the event of any material change to our privacy policy, we will inform our Customers.

(3) FedEx will use its best efforts to protect the personal information of its Customers as well as prevent unlawful disclosure of such information and damage to its Customers.

Objectives behind Collection of Personal Information and its Usage



(1) FedEx collects personal information on its Customers for the following objectives:

- To form a contract for providing our services (confirmation of the identity of the Customer and his/her intention);
- To carry out our services (shipping shipments and settlement of payment, etc.); and,
- To inform the Customers of our new services or events.

(2) FedEx will not disclose or use the personal information of Customers that it collects for objectives other than those listed above unless required by applicable law or FedEx obtains prior consent of the relevant Customer(s). FedEx will also obtain prior consent of the relevant Customer(s) in the event it wishes to use the personal information of such Customer(s) beyond the scope of authorized usage.

Items of Personal Information Collected by FedEx and Methods of Collection



(1) With respect to its Customers, FedEx collects personal information for the Customers to apply for a FedEx Account Number, to register their log-in information or for FedEx to provide its services, etc.  For optional items such as completing a survey, etc., Customers provide their personal information at their own discretion.

<Required Field of Information>

I. Customer ID, Password, Secret Question: These items are required to identify a particular Customer on our Web site.

II. Name of the Company or an Individual (Korean and English), Resident Registration Number (Business Registration Number): For managing our Customer data base, these items are required to identify a particular Customer and for the Customer to use our services.

III. Address and Contact Information (telephone number, cell phone number, fax number and e-mail address): These are required to inform our Customers of major changes to our standard agreement or announcements related to our products and services; to send materials related to our services; and to respond to our Customers regarding their comments.

<Optional Information>

Please be advised that at the time a Customer applies for FedEx Account Number, we ask our Customer to provide the name of the express delivery service that he or she primarily uses, the area to which the Customer most often sends his or her shipments, frequency of usage, and any request that the Customer would like to make to FedEx.  We collect this information in order to provide the service most appropriate to the individual Customer.

<Additional Information>

To pay for our services, we also require the following information:

I. Payment by Credit Card: Credit card number, expiration date, secret code, etc.

II. Payment by Wire Transfer: Name of the bank, account number, personal identification number, etc.

(2) Customers can indicate whether they consent to our collection of their personal information as set forth in our privacy policy by clicking the “Agree” or “Not Agree” button; if a Customer clicks “Agree”, he or she is deemed to have consented to our collecting personal information.

Providing Personal Information to a Third Party



Other than in exceptional circumstances, such as to satisfy legal requirements, etc., FedEx will not provide a Customer’s personal information to a third party without the Customer’s consent. However, to provide better services for our Customers, we may provide personal information of our Customers to our business partners, sponsors, etc.  In such instances, we will obtain the consent (for example, by clicking a mouse at our Web site) of the relevant Customer(s) by providing notice, either through a post on our Web site or by providing individual notice in writing to the relevant Customer concerning the party to whom we intend to provide the personal information, reasons for providing personal information, and the information that will be provided.

Inspection and Correction of Personal Information, Withdrawing Consent to Our Collection, Usage and Providing Personal Information, etc



Customers may, through writing, calling or sending us an e-mail (to krcsl@fedex.com), request inspection of their personal information at any time and withdraw their consent to, among other things, our collecting and using and their providing of personal information. In such instances, after we confirm the identity of the Customer making the request, we will take the necessary steps.

Period for Holding and Using Personal Information Collected from the Customers



(1) Personal information collected with the consent of Customers will be held and used by us during the time the Customers use our services on our Web site.

(2) FedEx will destroy Personal Information collected from Customers without delay based on the following:

I. Information Obtained at the Time of Customer’s Application for the FedEx Account Number: In the event a Customer submits an application to delete FedEx Account Number.

II. Information Obtained at Log-in Registration: In the event a Customer requests de-registration or loses his/her qualification to be a registered Customer.

III. Information Collected for Temporary Purposes, such as survey, etc.: Upon conclusion of the applicable survey, etc.

(3) Notwithstanding the above paragraphs, in case there is a need to preserve the personal information of the Customers pursuant to applicable laws such as Korean Commercial Code, laws relating to the Protection of Consumers in Electronic Commerce, etc. or in case there is a need on the part of FedEx to hold Customers’ personal information, such as for settlement of payment or to prepare for a potential legal dispute such as lawsuit, etc., and FedEx notifies the relevant Customer(s) of the reasons for holding the personal information, the period of holding and the description of the personal information that will be held by FedEx, FedEx may hold personal information of its Customers.

FedEx partly uses cookies in its Web site.  Please note, however, personal information on our Customers is not stored and we use cookies for the minimum amount of information (location and language used) necessary to operate our Web site.

Technical and Administrative Measures to Protect the Personal Information of Customers



(1) FedEx implements various technical security mechanisms to protect Customers’ personal information. All information provided by Customers is safely kept and managed by our security system, which protects the information with a double fire wall.

(2) FedEx, as part of administrative measures to protect the personal information of its Customers, has prepared procedures to access and manage the personal information. Moreover, FedEx will limit the number of personnel handling personal information to Customers and provide its personnel with continuous security training.

Amending FedEx Privacy Policy



Our privacy policy complies with the laws and regulations applicable to the protection of personal information in Korea, such as laws relating to the Promotion of Information Telecommunication Network Use and Protection of Information, the Directive on the Protection of Personal Information, laws relating to the Use and Protection of Credit Information, the Electronic Commerce Basic Law, and the Directive on the Protection of Consumers Engaged in Electronic Commerce. Therefore, our privacy policy may change due to changes in the applicable laws and regulations of Korea or in response to government directives. In the event we change our privacy policy, we will disclose the date of the change, reasons for the change, and the description of the change on our Web site.
