New Zealand Customs - Export Entry Transaction Fee (EETF)
In 2008, New Zealand Customs began charging an Export Entry Transaction Fee (EETF) on all outbound shipments from New Zealand. The EETF applies to any shipments over NZD1,000.00. FedEx has been covering these fees on behalf of its customers since the EETF was first implemented.
Due to increasing business and operating cost, FedEx will no longer be able to cover these export fees for customers. Effective June 20, 2010, customers will be required to take up the EETF of NZD12.67 for their outbound shipments with a declared value of over NZD1,000.00.
The EETF covers activities such as:
• Processing information from export entries and cargo reports about goods leaving New Zealand;
• Identifying and assessing the nature of any risk associated with, or arising from, the goods;
• Screening and inspecting consignments; and
• Administering the Secure Exports Scheme and auditing participants.
The fees do not contribute to the costs of investigating and prosecuting border-related offending. These costs are met by the Crown, which is the foundation of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the New Zealand government.
The fees will facilitate:
• Fast and efficient border clearance processes;
• Controlling prohibited exports; and
• Assuring New Zealand’s trading partners that imports from New Zealand are at low risk.
